Sapphire Beach

Commanding a unique absolute beachfront position, the owner’s desired outcome was obviously to capitalise on the amazing views, maintain privacy and make the most of the outlook onto a coastal reserve along the side boundary. Their design brief was a mid-century inspired coastal home with a subtle nod to Palm Springs.

The entry statement includes a flag stone driveway and pathways, hanging gardens and a white glazed brick entrance with an overhanging white arbour all of which invoke a Palm Springs feel. Design statements such as the flat roof hidden behind grooved parapets, 2400mm high windows with highlights over, a feature screen and custom metalwork and sunken outdoor lounge room provide the 1960’s architectural references.

Internally the home offers design elements such as terrazzo flooring, black japan stained timberwork, Statuario stone and brushed gold accents. Built over two levels, downstairs offers a stunning entrance with an oversized glass door leading to the curved white glazed brick wall and highlighting the open tread staircase with flat bar balustrading that wraps around the black timber treads. The kitchen features a partially recessed 3m island bench in Statuario Venato stone, pantry and wall oven towers completed in ribbed stained black japan timber, a large glass splashback to take advantage of the views over the adjoining Pandanus trees and a separate walk in pantry with built in Vintec wine and beer fridge. The kitchen flows onto an oversized dining and lounge which boasts a floor to ceiling built in linear gas fireplace set into a glazed brick ‘chimney’ and custom cabinetry that once references the black japan timber work. Oversized stacker doors open the whole of this area to the ocean views and lead to the alfresco area, sunken lounge and pool and sundeck beyond. The clients also required provision for a bedroom and bathroom on this level to accommodate an older child or elderly parent. This area has been beautifully designed to provide the privacy requested and its own separate access to the front walled courtyard.

The upper level has a media room with custom built cabinetry and the master bedroom has its own balcony overlooking the pool and sundeck areas with spectacular ocean views of Sapphire Beach and beyond. An aluminium screen is installed at the end of the balcony which is quite unique in its design accommodating for air flow and privacy from your neighbours. The ensuite has floor to ceiling polished porcelain tiles and Quantum quartz stonework to the end of the shower with brushed gold tapware. An elaborate walk in robe accommodates the master bedroom and the layout of the custom built cabinetry brings plenty of space for any person with lots of draws, shelving, shoe racks and hanging areas. The upper level also has two more bedrooms and one of them has its own balcony and this is where the hanging garden is accessed from, complete with custom designed aluminium screen work. A bathroom is situated between the bedrooms and has a striking feature bath area installed, a heavily veined black Marquina quartz with a recessed solid white stone oval bath tub and brushed gold tapware and accessories to match. Building in close proximity of the coastal environment, an aluminium roof sheeting system is installed complete with high 316 grade quality stainless steel guttering and fixings so it can last for many years ahead.

This exquisite east facing direct ocean view home offers a harmonious blend of sophisticated luxury, design excellence and meticulous craftsmanship, emanating the coastal lifestyle Sapphire Beach is so famous for.
